Machine learning engineers are responsible for designing, developing and applying machine learning models to solve complex problems based on the analysis of large volumes of data. They design the predictive models/algorithms and build the software for automating/industrialising these models, in conjunction with the AI engineers. They are therefore involved in all stages of the model lifecycle, from data collection and preparation to evaluation and deployment. At the heart of artificial intelligence, these profiles, which combine data science ++ and data engineering, build the 'bricks' of AI that the AI engineers will then use, either open source or for a fee, to develop their solutions. They will still be in great demand in 2024, and salaries can soar after just a few years' experience. In the long term, once the foundation of AI bricks has been built, the volume of mainstream demand should be concentrated on AI engineers, but senior and highly expert profiles will continue to be highly sought after to develop complex customised models.
